Girlfriend returns home to find her boyfriend cuddled with a cat, despite them not having one: 'You may not have a cat, but that cat sure does have a human now'

We're used to thinking it's us who adopt cats. We look for one in a shelter, we answer a call from a friend who found a stray kitten, or we suddenly realise the cat we see in front of us was sent by the elusive and meowsterious Cat Distribution System - and that means that we're now cat pawrents (congrats!). But sometimes, usually in the most unexpected of ways, the cat adopts us. The cat is the adopting side of the equation, and the human is officially being adopted into the open paws of their new feline family member.

Does that make sense? It does to people it happened to. Besides the hissterical story of the cat that adopted a couple you'll read right below, we asked around the I Can Has Cheezburger HQ if anyone's cat actually adopted them. The answers did not disappoint:

"You know that one cat down at the office entrance? I literally took her to the vet yesterday because she wouldn't let me leave the office. She's in my home now. I think she adopted me through the vet I took her to."
"One absolute unit, a complete chonker badonker, found his way into my living room. He's been there ever since. He seems to like me."
"I honestly think my cat adopted me. I was in a bad place in my life, really needed some company, and then on a night walk, this little kitten walked towards me from a bush. I stopped, she put her paw on my shoe, like she was telling me 'It's okay, buddy'. I took her inside, but she was the one who adopted me into her life."
